Desjardins is a financial cooperative group that offers a variety of services and products to its clients. As one of the largest cooperative groups of its kind in Canada, Desjardins services 6 million clients and has assets totaling over $173 billion. Some of the cooperatives and subsidiary companies under Desjardins’ control include caisses, credit unions, securities brokerages, venture capital management firms, asset management firms, general insurance companies and life insurance companies. Desjardins prides itself on its mission of trying to socially and economically better the situation of its clients and the communities it operates in. The Desjardins Group came into existence back in 1901 when founder Alphonse Desjardins started a caisse in Lévis.
Desjardins offers several different kinds of insurance products including auto insurance, home insurance, recreation vehicle insurance, loan insurance, line of credit insurance, health insurance, disability insurance, personal accident insurance and life insurance. To make it easier for clients to pick an insurance plan, Desjardins offers several insurance bundles. For example, four of the insurance bundles offered by the company are the Vision Active Solution, Vision Family Solution, Vision Freedom Solution and Vision Health Security Solution. Each bundle features a life insurance component and allows you to add on additional life insurance if so desired. Other components of these bundles include accident insurance, critical illness insurance and disability coverage.
The Vision Active Solution is an insurance bundle designed for young adults who have no children. People between the ages of 18 and 35 may apply for this bundle, which can cover the insuree up to age 40; after age 40, the insuree will need to switch to another bundle. Under the life insurance component of this policy, beneficiaries will receive $10,000. In the case of an accidental death, beneficiaries can receive anywhere between $10,000 and $50,000. The Vision Family Solution is designed for people between the ages of 18 and 50 who have dependent children. Insurees can remain insured under this bundle up until the age of 55; after that, they will need to convert to a different bundle. The death coverage under this bundle is $25,000, and the accidental death coverage is from $10,000 to $50,000. There is also a monthly death benefit for parents of $250 to $1,000.
If the children are grown up and out of the house, then the Vision Freedom Solution is the answer. This bundle is for adults between the ages of 35 and 55 whose children are not dependants. The insurees can keep this bundle up until the age of 65 – they’ll have to get a different bundle after that. This bundle provides $25,000 in death coverage and $10,000 to $50,000 in accidental death coverage. People between the ages of 55 and 75 can look into the Vision Health Security Solution, which offers lifetime coverage. Beneficiaries will receive $15,000 under the life insurance component and $10,000 to $50,000 under the accidental death insurance component.
In 1994, Desjardins purchased The Imperial Life Insurance Company and Laurentian Life.
